ALEX NICHOLLS C.V.

Alex Nicholls (Sydney, Australia 1985) founded A.Nicholls in 2017 after working for renowned international architecture practices in Australia, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Between 2009-2017 Alex worked for the offices of Massimilano Fuksas in Rome, Guillermo Vazquez Consuegra in Seville as well as Rogers Stirk Harbour Partners and Alison Brooks Architects in London. His diverse experience crosses a variety of building scales and typologies from individual domestic projects to large-scale public infrastructure and cultural projects.

He graduated with honours in 2008 from the Masters in Architecture at the University of Sydney receiving the CHL Turner Memorial Prize and an International Exchange Scholarship for a semester spent at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2005 he graduated from the Bachelor of Design in Architecture with various accolades including the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, New South Wales Chapter Prize and the Elizabeth Munroe prize for the highest weighted average mark.

The practice aspires to create spatially intriguing architecture with clear forms, refined proportions and surprising geometries and experiences. With a careful crafting of mass and void as well as control of light and views, each space created aims to be a pleasure to use, functional and durable and with an atmosphere conducive to its programme. Each project is approached individually and rigorously, to maximise the potential of the site, the brief and the budget. Cohesion is a key agenda, creating buildings in response to their context, with cohesion from the building concept to the construction detail, from the form to the structural solution, from the materiality to the built and natural landscape. Finally sustainability, both passive and high-tech as well as creating a socially responsible architecture is core to the offices principles.
